An Hα filter of novel design is being developed for the University of New South Wales Automated Patrol Telescope (APT). The APT optics are too fast to allow the use of an interference filter. Instead the authors use four longpass glass filters (edge wavelengths of 630 nm, 645 nm, 665 nm, and 695 nm). Images taken through successive pairs of filters are combined to produce a central passband of 20 nm and two sidebands for continuum subtraction. Initial results are presented.
