The paper considers the origin of gamma-lines under cosmic conditions, the methodology of cosmic gamma spectroscopy, and the characteristics of gamma-spectrometers. Observational data are provided on discrete gamma-lines caused by solar flares and those arising in cosmic objects outside the solar system. A possible interpretation of the detected gamma-lines is discussed, and the prospects of cosmic gamma-spectroscopy are analyzed. It is concluded that observations of cosmic gamma-lines are apparently the only information channel on the characteristics of the nuclear component of subcosmic rays inside various astronomical objects.
