It is shown that velocity biasing can lead to erroneous interpretation of the temperature and density evolution of the solar wind. Such biasing may be due to the plasma available to the satellite or may be due to the particular choice of sample being analyzed. It is suggested that the reduced temperature tau = T/u-squared be used to decrease the strong effects of velocity on temperature analysis. In addition, if velocity biasing is eliminated from Helios 1 data it is found that cooling of the slow component can be detected similar to cooling of the fast component.
