The generalized inverse problem theory is used for the construction of an algorithm that performs resolution analysis of a network. This algorithm incorporates elements of two approaches to the problem, namely the use of a priori information about the space of unknowns and about the model. Initially, the stochastic inversion of the network provides information about the space of unknowns, in the form of a variance-covariance matrix. Then, the network is inverted anew using the statistics of the corrections. This time, the model can be simplified, e.g. by assuming homogeneity and isotropy. The resolution and random terms of the variance of parameters are computed, along with the resolution and information distribution matrices. This algorithm is applied to the seismic network in Greece to investigate the accuracy of estimation of focal location, both horizontally and vertically, for intermediate depth earthquakes. The analysis shows the major effects of the model, mainly the wave velocity, on the estimation of focus.
