Experimental results obtained with the cryogenic gravitational-wave resonant detector ALTAIR located in Frascati (Italy) are reported. The ALTAIR detector consists of a cylindrical bar equipped with a capacitive resonant transducer and a dc SQUID amplifier; the first longitudinal mode of resonance of the antenna is at 1.8 kHz. The best sensitivity reached, in terms of the effective noise temperature, is 20 mK, corresponding to a metric perturbation of 3 x 10 exp -18.
