The history of star-formation has now been documented back to z 5. While this is a remarkable accomplishment, much remains to be done. The data used to measure SFR{z} have been inhomogeneous at different redshifts. Measurements are exceptionally difficult from z 1 to 2, at or near the peak in SFR{z}. Moreover, while the overall form of SFR{z} can be explained within the context of the standard picture of the hierarchical assembly of galaxies, there are still very few strong observational constraints on either the physical causes of SFR{z} or its implications for galaxy building. In this proposal we describe how extensive HST archival ACS images in the Chandra Deep Field South can address these deficiencies. We propose to analyse rest-frame near-UV and visible ACS images of ten thousand UV-selected galaxies at z 0 to 2 provided by NASA's GALEX mission. The GALEX data will determine the galaxy redshifts and estimate the SFR's from UV luminosity and UV color {using the same techniques that have been successful at higher-z}. The HST images will determine the size, morphology, photometric structure, and local environments of these galaxies. The combination of HST+GALEX+ancillary-multiwaveband data can test models for merger and interaction-induced star-formation and galaxy- building and relate these processes to the origin of the Hubble sequence.
