On 20 April 1976 a coronal emission line transient was observed on the west limb of the sun using a 5303-A Fe XIV emission line detection system and the Sacramento Peak Observatory's 40 cm coronagraph. The transient was observed at a single sample point, and the time scale for this event was found to be about 40 min. Limb scans before and after the event are used to estimate the amount of coronal mass involved in this relatively slow event. A depletion of the inner coronal of 4.4 times 10 to the 38th power electrons is inferred by differencing pre- and post-event model electron density distributions.
