An effective mechanism of magnetic field energy dissipation in a neutral current sheet is described; the neutral current sheet is formed in a theta-pinch device between two plasma regions with uniform magnetic fields of opposite directions. The antiparallel magnetic field turbulent dissipation is observed over a range of plasma densities and magnetic field values typical of the solar atmosphere. Furthermore, the electron acceleration noted in the neutral current sheet agrees well with data for solar flares.
