Features of several types of image intensifier and video systems for studying meteors are described. Emphasis is placed on data analysis and sky-scanning procedures which will be implemented to optimize the use of solid-state imaging systems, which are linked through fiber optics to signal analysis circuitry. It is shown that current meteor data are sufficient for estimating the mass distribution, flux, and the atmospheric trajectories and the orbits of sporadic meteors. Further efforts are needed to characterize the light curves, fragmentation, deceleration and wakes of faint meteors, as well as to increase coverage of meteor showers.
