One of the fundamental questions raised by observations of astrophysical jets concerns the mechanism for initiating the outflows. Among the scenarios currently being actively investigated (theoretically and numerically) are Magneto-Hydro-Dynamic (MHD) models in whihc magnetized accretion disks, rotating around proto-stars, are involved. In this talk, I will describe the physics behind the different launching mechanisms so far proposed in these models, their success and failure.
