Different from the so far known methods of calculating the Ly α intensity of a comet, a new formulation is attempted to well incorporate the differential nature of the force field working on particles in the coma. The formulation is based on the so-called Lambert problem in the theory of orbit determination. An expression of the density at an arbitrary point of time and place is derived as an integral over time (or, equivalently, over trajectory of the moving source). An example of numerical calculation is presented, which demonstrates the difference between the syndynamic model and the present method.
