Between March 3 and 23, 1986 CCD systems of the same kind at 3 widely separated telescopes on La Palma were used to obtain 287 images with the Giotto Multicolor Camera (HMC) filters for studies of the inner coma of comet Halley near to the Giotto-encounter. The dominant dust emission in the coma as seen from HMC is directed 55 deg from the Sun to the south east, with a fanlike dust emission in the sunward direction with several substructures. In the groundbased images there are different jet structures pointing into the sunward half circle. One extends to 8000 km from the nucleus roughly in the same projected direction as the dominant emission in the HMC image. As it is more pronounced in the HMC image it may well be near to the line of sight of HMC and therefore enhanced by projection. It would then correspond to activity on the afternoon side of the nucleus. Continuum luminosity before encounter was decreasing but turned into a sharp rise after encounter.
