Proto-planetary {PPNe} and young planetary nebulae {PNe} show a dazzling variety of non-spherical morphologies, whereas the circumstellar envelopes of the AGB red giant stars from which they evolve are mostly round. Although a number of theoretical models have been proposed to explain this paradox, no consensus has emerged so far. A major reason for this is that in ground-based observations, the seeing merges together small -scale structural details which provide valuable clues to the mass-ejection processes mediating the AGB-to-PN transformation. However, using WFPC-2/HST it is now possible to sensitively image small-scale structures such as jets, disks, arcs, knots etc. and characterise their symmetry, enabling more definitive testing of various evolutionary models. A dramatic illustration of this statement is provided by our recent imaging of the PPNe CRL2688 and the young PNe MyCn18. We will image three PPNe similar to CRL2688, and two young PNe with striking bipolar structural symmetries {like MyCn18}. The PPNe, seen in scattered stellar light will be imaged through a wide-band continuum filter {F606W}, and the polariser quad {POLQ} will be used to measure the polarisation structure. The PNe will be imaged using narrow-band filters covering the H Alpha{F656N}, OI{F631N}, OIII{F502N}, and SII{F673N} lines. These data will allow us to search for clues to the formation and evolution of PPNe & PNe, and enable the construction of detailed models of their 3-dimensional structure.
