The study examines the problem of the frequency change of light hitting a moving detector from the point of view of an observer who is at rest in the reference frame of an emitter. Wave and corpuscular characteristics of light are found to yield different results. A formula similar to the famous Doppler one is obtained if a wave nature of light is assumed; however, no shift in the frequency is obtained if only a corpuscular nature of light is considered.
