We propose to obtain 2 (micron) spectra of heavily reddened stars in OB associations found through 2MASS. Our goal is to use these spectra to obtain spectral types, and thus select a sample of heavily reddened (A_V > 10) main sequence O, B, and A stars, both behind molecular gas and neutral gas. Our ultimate goal is to obtain moderate-resolution ((lambda) / (Delta) (lambda)=1200) 3 (micron) spectroscopy of these stars with no circumstellar dust yet high column densities of foreground molecular or neutral gas. This will greatly increase the number of stars in which absorption from H_2O and CH_3OH ices, aliphatic hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, and the unidentified 3.47 (micron) feature can be observed without interference from circumstellar dust or photospheric molecular lines. To date, the only source with a published 3 (micron) moderate-resolution spectrum that fits these criteria is IV Cyg #12, a B hypergiant reddened by neutral gas in the diffuse ISM.
