A number of supernovae have been recently discovered showing unusual observed properties that do not match the traditional classification schemes. The explosion mechanisms of many of these controversial transients is still far to be unveiled, and sometimes even their genuine supernova nature is a subject of the debate. In this article we provide an updated observational overview of the most interesting new supernova discoveries.
