According to IAUC 7769, observations of Comet 51P/Harrington (see illustration in the December Journal, p. 357) on 2001 December 6 by P. Manteca at Barcelona showed the comet to have split into at least two components. A similar splitting was recorded at the apparition of 1994. Martin Mobberley took the attached image of the split nucleus at Galleywood, Chelmsford on 2001 December 10.
