Linear and nonlinear techniques for measuring oscillator strengths in atomic spectroscopy are examined in a detailed review. The linear and nonlinear susceptibilities and the radiative constants are defined; the fundamental principles of the methods are outlined; and specific dispersion-based, absorption/emission-based, Ladenburg, nonlinear-interaction, and laser methods are characterized.
