The stability of the steady-state rotation of a flexible filament in the form of a ring around an attracting center is investigated as a function of the law of filament extensibility. The conditions of the stable rotation of the ring are determined which differ from the Hooke law. The results obtained are used to analyze the stability of the stationary rotation of a large number of artificial satellites connected sequentially along the orbit into a ring by weightless ropes of varying length. A wide class of rope tightness control laws which ensure the stabilization of the satellite ring is presented.
