In the framework of the SO (1,3)-Yang-Mills gauge theory of gravity, the gravitational gauge field for a non-interacting homogeneous and isotropic matter distribution decouples in the high energy limit (the ``asymptotic freedom of gravity''). In this limit, the gauge field equations have non-trivial and completely regular solutions, called ``cosmons'' their form and physical interpretation is discussed.
