Some aspects of modeling the solar photosphere and chromosphere with allowance for the characteristics produced by hydrodynamic and magnetic processes, on the basis of modern solar data are examined. The problem of asigning heights, geometrical or optical, to specific features of the solar atmosphere is discussed, along with the establishment of reference points and height scales.
