The generation of pinched current layers, in which magnetic field line reconnection and unsteady flashing phenomena may occur, is an important aspect of cosmic plasma studies. The article discusses the recombination process and defines under what conditions it may be generated. More specifically, a detailed description of pinched current layers is presented along with a discussion of slow adiabatic movements of an ideal plasma.
