Apodization: Optical Systems
Scientific paper
Using the calculus of variations, the authors shows that a Gaussian
pupil leads, in the paraxial approximation, to an optimum apodization of
the diffraction image under the conditions of constant pupil energy and
constant moment of inertia. Some properties of the diffraction image are
pointed out.
