Interferometric observations of the inner accretion flow around Sgr A* as well as spectroscopic observations of relativistically broadened iron lines from AGN carry the potential of mapping the spacetimes of astrophysical black holes. This potential will be realized only if the radiation from the inner accretion flow can be identified and distinguished from emission by the intervening medium or from jets and outflows. In this talk, I will describe a new pattern matching technique that filters the observed images and spectra based on the kinematic properties of fluid elements in the inner accretion flow and on the particular properties of strong gravitational lensing in a Kerr spacetime. Analyzing observed images and spectra with this technique will enable clean tests of gravitational physics in the near future.
