We show that recent claims that active galactic nuclei emit very large fluxes of high energy neutrinos can be verified with existing air shower installations operating in the 105-107 GeV energy range. A recent prediction for the neutrino flux actually violates existing bounds on giant horizontal air showers, established by the AKENO array.
