We present a brief discussion on the possible role of quark matter in
'neutron' stars. Observable aspects of neutron star structure and early
evolution of the newly born neutron star are discussed in this context.
The phase structure of dense quark matter and its impact on the equation
of state and transport properties of dense matter are highlighted.
