A method to lock the local high frequency crystal oscillator with the GPS 1pps signal transmitted from long distance is discussed. A high-precision TDC (time to digital converter) is introduced and the filtering methods are discussed. In order to reduce the cost as well as to reach the demanded precision the double D/A conversion is adopted. The hardware system has been debugged and tested, and the experiments show that the system fulfills the design requirements for measurement and control precision. Besides, several problems waiting for solutions, such as the nonlinearity of the double D/A conversion, the fault-tolerance of Kalman filtering and the further improving of the precision, are pointed out in this paper.
