Brown dwarfs seem to be rotating quite rapidly, and dust and cloud formation play a vital role in determining atmospheric properties. These suggest that weather may play as important a role in the atmospheres of brown dwarfs as we know it plays in giant planets. How to detect the signatures of these features. The Taurus Tunable Filter (TTF) offers an ideal way since it can acquire time series data which simultaneously observes target and reference objects, while also rapidly switching between target and reference frequencies.
