The cosmic ray showers detected at the Pierre Auger Observatory with zenith angles greater than 60° are the subject of a dedicated analysis. The spectrum of cosmic ray events above 1019 eV and zenith angles between 60° and 80° is presented. The potential of the surface detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory for detecting neutrinos through deeply penetrating inclined showers having a significant electromagnetic component has been studied, and an upper limit to the diffuse neutrino flux at EeV energies is presented.
