We present L-band spectra (R 25000) of comet C/2004 Q2 (Machholz) carried out by the Keck-II telescope with NIRSPEC on Jan 30, 2005. Comet Machholz was so bright that the obtained spectra allow us to find weak emission lines (especially, from minor species) and to derive accurate mixing ratios of cometary volatiles. In our spectra, many emission lines of H2O, OH,
HCN, CH4 and other organic molecules could be recognized. Here we concentrate on H2O and CH4 (and its mono-deuterated species, CH3D).
We derived the ortho-to-para abundance ratio (OPR) of H2O that might be a clue to formation conditions of H2O molecules. Furthermore, we searched emission lines of CH3D (mono-deuterated methane) to derive the Deuterium-to-Hydrogen ratio (DHR) in methane. Although emission lines from CH4 were clearly detected in its nu-3 vibrational band, we could find only one possible candidate for CH3D. We derived rotational temperatures for HCN and H2O. A rotational temperature for methane was assumed based on the results of HCN and H2O to derive an abundance ratio of CH3D to CH4. We discuss on the formation conditions of cometary ices in comet Machholz based on both the OPR of H2O and the DHR of methane.
