I consider stationary axially symmetric solutions of the
Einstein-Maxwell equations. These show that, in general,
time-independent electric and magnetic fields acting together cause
rotational effects in the spacetime. An electric charge placed on the
axis of a magnetic dipole induces a region of closed timelike curves.
