The twilight photometry technique is used to study the variability of stratospheric aerosol layer over the tropical Indian inland stations, Pune (18.5°N, 73.9°E) and Karad (17.0°N, 74.2°E) during the volcanically quiescent period January 2000 to December 2003. The stratospheric aerosol loading is computed from the aerosol vertical profiles derived by twilight scattering technique. The time variation of monthly mean stratospheric aerosol loading shows small-scale variations in the background stratospheric aerosol loading with maximum loading in the winter.
