The structure of a gravitational wave burst emitted by a particle radially imploding into a Schwarzschild black hole with a finite kinetic energy at infinity is analyzed in the framework of the Zerilli-Regge-Wheeler formalism. The three components of the burst, (a) precursor, (b) main burst, (c) ringing tail, are analyzed and the results compared and contrasted with those obtained for a particle initially at rest at infinity. The ringing tail of the burst is studied in terms of the normal modes of a black hole.
