The diurnal variation of intensity of the O2(0-1) Atmospheric band at 8645 A has been investigated by means of a filter-tilting photometer with aspheric lenses and a photomultiplier. Diurnal intensity changes in the (OI) 5577 A and the O2(0-1) Atmospheric band at 8645 A are well correlated indicating that the line and band are caused by the same process, the Chapman mechanism, instead of the two-step mechanism.
