Using data obtained from the three suprathermal ion detector experiments stationed on the lunar surface, it was determined that there exist two distinct and extensive plasma regimes within the geomagnetic tail at the distance of the moon's orbit. The first of these regimes is the plasma sheet. Data indicate that the plasma sheet extends to the distance of the lunar orbit with approximately the same spatial extent as observed closer to the earth. In the ions the plasma sheet is found to be much colder than at distances closer to the earth.
