The formation of ozone by the termolecular association of atomic and molecular oxygen is considered. The present study takes into account recent experimental evidence regarding the influence that the symmetry numbers of the reactant oxygen molecule and the activated ozone adduct have on the rate coefficients of the termolecular processes involved. The results suggest that a ratio of the energy randomization time to the lifetime of the activated complex of about 1/3 could explain the observed heavy ozone enhancement.
