An inversion of the currently available rotational splitting data which is representative of other recent inversions for the sun's internal rotation is analyzed. The so-called polar rate is found to be an extrapolation from lower latitudes. The basic conclusion that the average radial gradient of the rotation rate in the solar convection zone is small is corroborated.
