The factors contributing to flux changes in nonradial stellar pulsations are investigated under conditions applicable to a variety of pulsating star types by examining a linearized analytic representation of observed flux changes due to nonradial pulsations with mode indices (l,m). Histograms are presented, showing as a function of l, the relative importance of local temperature, geometry, pressure, and limb-darkening variations in contributing to nonradial flux changes. A procedure for the comparison of observational light and color data with model predictions on an amplitude ratio versus phase difference plane is outlined. Application of this procedure to data on Beta Cephei, 53 Persei, Delta C Scuti, rapidly oscillating Ap, Cepheid, and ZZ Ceti variables stars is shown to agree with published data on these systems.
