The use of data obtained from the ATS-6 radio beacon experiment to estimate plasma flux between ionosphere and protonosphere is explained. The measured plasmaspheric group delay is related directly to the total electron content along the slant path from satellite to receiver, and the measured ionospheric polarization rotation provides a measure of the Faraday electron content along the ionospheric part of the path. The difference between the two calculated quantities is the electron content of the protonospheric part of the path, and the ionospheric-protonospheric flux can be obtained from the temporal gradient of the protonospheric content. The diurnal variations of the fluxes for December 1975 and January 1976 as well as for June and July 1976 are portrayed, and the pattern of variations is discussed. It is concluded that both local and conjugate ionospheres play important parts in the filling and depletion of the protonospheric flux tubes.
