We discuss certain issues related to the determination of cosmological parameters and the nature of dark energy component from cosmological supernova observations. The main results are: (i) Even if the precise value of the dark energy equation of state w_X is known from observations, it is not possible to determine the nature of the dark energy source using only kinematical or geometrical measurements. (ii) Although the full data set rule out non-accelerating models, the high and low redshift subsets, individually, can admit non-accelerating models with zero dark energy. (iii) Although one can determine the present value of w_X accurately from the data, it is difficult to constrain the evolution of w_X.
