We will describe several ongoing deep and wide supernova (SN) surveys designed to measure the SN rate in clusters and in the field, the relative frequencies, and the luminosity functions among the different types of SNe. The technical challenges involved, including optimization of image subtraction performance and color-based classification of SN candidates, will be mentioned.
