In 1994 the first MAHRSI experiment was conducted to measure OH abundances in the mesosphere. From these observations it was seen that there was a discrepancy between them and time-dependent model calculations for the same region, the "HOx dilemma". In 1997 the second MAHRSI experiment was flown to attempt to resolve the questions raised by the first MAHRSI experiment. Analysis of the second experiment data showed the same discrepancies with the model calculations. To continue the previous studies, in an attempt to reconcile the differences between the model and observation, a more thorough comparison of both MAHRSI data sets to model calculations was made. Model calculations were made using a detailed photochemical model for numerous MAHRSI orbits taken from both the first and second experiments. The model parameters and time dependencies were constructed to duplicate the diurnal and altitude dependent behavior of the OH density profiles as observed by the MAHRSI experiments in order to highlight the differences between them. The model calculations show some many similarities with the MAHRSI observations from both experiments but the model also fails to capture many of the details. In particular the model fails to show the detailed diurnal variation of the OH density peak in the upper mesosphere. The results of the model calculations and the comparison with the MAHRSI data sets are shown and discussion of the similarities and differences is made along with discussion of the resolution of these differences.
