Scientific paper

The paper proposes a model for the interaction of the solar wind with Venus, in which the formation of a magnetic barrier, the ionopause characteristics, plasma dynamics in the magnetic barrier, and the formation of a magnetotail are examined. It is suggested that the plasma mantle is produced by photoions which form in the magnetic barrier and convect into the tail under the effect of a magnetic-pressure gradient and magnetic tension. The formation of the magnetotail is determined by the convection of flux tubes from the magnetic barrier.
