I review recent progress in the understanding of solar atmospheric magnetohydrodynamics, triggered by new high resolution observations and by recent advances in 3-D numerical modeling. I discuss particularly the requirements and capabilities for realistic numerical modeling of solar magnetohydrodynamics, and outline the primary requirements for further progress, in particular in the direction of chromospheric modeling.
