We briefly review the magnetospheric low frequency radio radiation from solar system planets and discuss their detectability at stellar distances (parsecs) against galactic background fluctuations. Extrapolation of radio emission energetics to the case of extrasolar planets -- especially hot Jupiters -- is performed on the basis of two scaling laws derived from solar system planets radio emissions. Intensities 103 to 105 higher than Jupiter's decameter radiation are predicted for hot Jupiters, which may thus be detectable with the largest radiotelescopes presently existing or in construction. Ongoing searches at UTR-2 (Kharkov) and at the VLA (New Mexico) are described. They did not provide yet any positive detection. Future low frequency arrays such as LOFAR should allow detection of the predicted radio fluxes.
