Three different problems are considered related to the extraction of information about the physical nature of an object from observational data. Two of them belong to the classes of direct and inverse light scattering problems, and the third one concerns optimal accumulation of the signal in observation through a turbulent atmosphere. The outcome is (1) a model of light scattering from the lunar surface, (2) an optimal filter for restoration of a planet's surface optical characteristics, and (3) interferometric method for imaging, alternative to the traditional one using a telescope. The results will be described more fully in subsequent publications.
