Interstellar clouds show structure on all scales observed, down to the smallest scales corresponding to a few 1000 a.u. or to below 1/1000 solar mass. We review the direct and indirect observational evidence for small-scale structure and the various methods used to describe the complex structure observed in a quantitative way, and discuss the relation between the various, at first sight rather different, concepts used.
