The entire Galactic plane over a strip 4^̂-6^̂ wide in latitude and all major local clouds at high er latitude have now been mapped in CO at an angular resolution of ~9' with the twin 1.2 m telescopes. Th e resulting CO map of the Galaxy agrees in detail with a map of molecular column density derived from complete and unbiased far-infrared and 21 cm surveys. This agreement suggests both that the CO (1-0) line is a reliabl e tracer of molecular column density, and that our inventory of Galactic molecular clouds in CO is nearly compl ete. Large sections of the Galaxy have been mapped at the same angular resolution in the CO (2-1) line with a pair of 60 cm telescopes, at 2.7' resolution in thco with a pair of 4 m telescopes, and at 50'' resoluti on with the FCRAO array receiver. The entire disk of M31 has been surveyed in CO with the northern 1.2 m telescope, and about half of the disk ha s so far been observed at more than ten times higher angular resolution with the IRAM 30 m and FCRAO 14 m teles copes. The on-going surveys are revealing that M31 is a much richer and more interesting molecular galaxy than previously thought, with high-contrast molecular spiral arms and individual molecular complexes very similar t o those in the Milky Way.
