We searched for hot (million degree) interstellar medium in the disks and halos of ten spiral galaxies observed with ROSAT. The galaxy sample contains starburst, active and normal galaxies. Diffuse X-ray emission from million degree gas was detected in the disks and/or halos of seven galaxies. With the exception of NGC 4565, all seven galaxies show enhanced star formation or obey active galactic nuclei. The results are discussed within the framework of models describing the formation of hot interstellar medium in the disk and its outflow into the halo.
