The evolution of galaxy clusters has been well studied for 0 < z < 1. We propose to extend our knowledge of cluster evolution to much higher redshifts. We have discovered a rich galaxy cluster at z-2.38, and this proposal requests time to study it. We will use broad- and narrow-band imaging to identify all the cluster members and study their properties. We will also search for diffuse Ly(alpha) emission from the huge quantity of neutral gas that seems to suffuse this cluster. Together, these data will give us the first detailed view of gas and galaxies in a high redshift cluster.
